My account got pruned a couple of years ago and IRC has been a total shitshow on and off, so I was never able to figure out what the problem was. I don't know what the story has been with that site, but I've moved on and have no regrets. Seems like that might be good advice for others as this is not exactly an isolated incident.
While I agree that this is not an isolated incident and PTP has long had technical issues (really sick of PTP staff insisting that it's fine for the SSL tracker to be broken for a year and that users are being unreasonable for wondering when it will be back), it still has a tremendous amount of content and abandoning it is not a small choice to make. Hopefully they get better a better sysop and infrastructure as a result of this - the "PTP tracker is currently experiencing issues" banner was practically burned into the homepage for the last 5-10 years. Never seen another site with so many tech issues.
Yeah, there's no question that the userbase is incredibly dedicated and that permanent loss of the site's content would be a huge loss for its users. Their deep-cut content is unparalleled. I just recommend that anyone relying on it keep a backup site in mind.
