  • I just recently realised how horrendous "no knife zones" in the Berlins public transport are. I literally cannot transport my straight razor to a honing shop via public transport without committing a crime and have to pay shipping via DHL within the city instead.

I didn't find the actual law, but I think you should be safe if you wrap it well (but: IANAL). There seem to be several common sense exceptions, so I wouldn't worry too much about this.

      • Good catch, might be worth it to put it in a wrapped box. If it comes to a search that might be just enough leverage to put them off of charging me.

    • Man, that is a pain. Do they screen people?

      • They can by law but I can't remember ever seeing cops on the platform or inside trains on smaller stations during regular operation. On large stations like central station or big exchange hubs they show presence regularly.

    • Oh that’s frustrating. Would it be less expensive to take a taxi there and then take a train back?

      • Unfortunately not, even though DHL increases postage costs yearly they are still rather cheap.

    • This sucks even more if one factors in DHL being notorious to lose packages... Personally I'd "live the crime life" and concealed carry πŸ‘€

      • I guess I'll do the same and hope for the best. Racial profiling is in my favour and if I try to avoid bigger stations along my route I could manage to get there without even seeing cops.

  • I'm seriously a bit overwhelmed by my job atm, it feels like time's just flying by right now. Case in point: Autumn is my favourite season and October is one of my favourite months, yet we're already at the end of both and there were very, very few opportunities to actually enjoy the season. I rarely get anything that I've planned a long time ago done and I can't really tell if it's a sign of exhaustion, ADHD or depression. Oh well... I hope this gets a bit better soon.

  • As you all know I'm very proud of the system I built that automatically formats, posts, and then cross-posts Shave of the Day's starting in the Shaving Data System. With the click of a button users can log their SOTD for future filtering and data crunching, post to PieFed/Lemmy, and then have their post automatically posted to the Zulip chat.

Until now there have been some bugs... very time consuming bugs! I finally figured out that by sending the SOTD text via curl using a text file solves all of my problems, as opposed to sending it all as a string. Sending it as a string was problematic because if a person's SOTD post contained a character that curl processes as a data break (for lack of a better term), curl would stop there and ignore the rest of the post. Characters like ", ', etc are very common and caused problems.

So anyway, I think it's all finally fixed and working nicely, and it excites me more than you can imagine! It's a good thing my day job doesn't involve any sort of computer logic like programming or something. I'd go nuts!
