Green Lynx Spider update
Green Lynx Spider update
A new update on my spider friend! A few weeks ago, I lost track of her and thought she left the garden to find a safe place for her egg sac. I was sad that I did not see her for a while, but I eventually found her halfway across the yard on a tomato plant. The day after I found her, she was doing a funny little dance and I suspected she was getting her sac ready. I was correct and she laid eggs that night!
Since then, she’s caught some tomato hornworms and she got really fat again.
Then I was out of town for about 10 days and the tomato plant died. I’m no longer growing it for tomatoes, now it’s just shelter for my friend. This lovely gal completely changed color while I was gone to match the reddish brown of the surrounding leaves. And she continues to eat the hornworms whenever she finds them.
I can’t wait for her babies to hatch!!
I had what appeared to be two Orb Weavers living in my garden. One amongst the beans growing up my deck railing (https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/54351215) and another that lived in my tomato plant leaves (https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/53053891) in my other garden.
I accidentally damaged the web in the tomato plants and after that I made every effort to not damage it any further. It made for some interesting acrobatics trying to pick tomatoes from behind the web.
Both spiders got crazy fat because I made an effort to plant lots of pollinator attracting plants as well as letting local "weeds" grow with my crops. Both spiders were well fed.
I was very happy to have both spiders plus an additional, very fat and fluffy bunny living in my gardens this year.
Nice to see more spider friends out and about :)
Orb weavers are some of my favorite spiders. They can make some really intricate webs! I love those pictures and thank you so much for sharing!
I have more pictures of a super cool looking garden orb weaver that I’ll share later.
