I was once paintballing against a guy wearing one of those puffy down filled coats. The coat made him almost invulnerable because the paintballs wouldn't break against them. They just bounced off. I have to think that an inflatable suit would work the same way with pepper balls. It's goofy, but also a great tactical choice for multiple reasons.
Until you get pepper spray near the intake fan, then you're trapped in a spicy bubble.
You could always wear a respirator inside the suit. I have also been thinking of a way to upgrade the fan mechanism so you could add a layer of air filter. Then the whole thing would basically be a hazmat suit.
A puffy jacket won't protect your face. Case in point, check out what they did to the priest in Chicago last week.
I'm just using that as an example of how one of these inflatable costumes would act as a kind of armor.
Hope they're wearing a vest under there.
