I honestly don't remember the last time this was an issue where I live (other than stores not taking cards at all). That said I do carry a couple hundreds bucks worth of local currency just in case. Also, let's fuckin finally switch our electronic payments to Taler which can fallback to working offline (but with less scam protection for vendors).
Happened in Canada when Rogers (one of the Big Three mobile carriers here) shit the bed in 2022, card machines weren't working in some restaurants and shops, debit ATMs stopped working too. Cash was king for a couple days.
Their grins suggest they both have plans later where the single dollar bills will be helpful.
HE does, but she's getting them now so there's no need to show up later.
The only time I've ever had any problems with card not working because things are down, the shop literally had to take down my info and card info and call the bank to authorize a transaction. This was sometime in April or May of this year. Not a huge deal if you can just do that. Sure it'll be slower but it works.
Boomers be out here acting like we never had any ways of using credit and/or debit cards before electronic card readers.
