Tom Matano, the automotive designer who helped create one of the most beloved roadsters in history, the original Mazda MX-5 Miata, has died at the age of 76. His passing marks the end of a career that reshaped how many thinks about what a sports car can and should be: lightweight, driver-focused, emotionally resonant, and joyously simple.

I’m part of a sim race league and we just picked the MX-5 as the car for this season. I’ll try to do the MX-5 justice for Tom, RIP.

  I lost all my racing friends when I switched from Playstation to PC :(
  
  This season we’re using iRacing, last season was Le Mans Ultimate, all on PC. The main member that organizes the league is crazy talented and even helps with training, it’s a ton of fun to be a part of.
