RAF pilots got tired of shooting them down over the English channel and having shrapnel embed in their planes so they got skilled at approaching the V1s from behind and then flicking the end of their aircraft's wing under the V1 wing to flip it into a dive.
British newspapers and radio stations were co-opted by Military Intelligence to supress reports of actual V1 impacts and instead told to report V1 explosions that were either too far or too short from their target. Military Intelligence also created impact craters that were way too long from their intended target for German reconnaissance aircraft to spot. This way the V1 engineers would program the fuel cutoff so the V1s would fall too short into the sea or fly over their target (usually a factory or population centre in London) and impact in a field in the countryside.
