That's a very bad map. A better version would show McDonald's locations per 1000 people

Either that, or by area, in which case it represents a density. Though, this map works fine for a present / absent comparison with the IKEA map, so I can't question it too much.

I kind of want a map like this with different multi nationals but with added arrows and symbols so it looks like a ww2 battle map.

Hmmm.
One might think that's a misspelling of intellectual, but it's actually an old English loan of a Swedish compound word consisting of the word
intemeaning not, andlektuellmeaning literate. As such it means illiterate, which is the correct word to use when describing someone who just misspelled intellectual.
