Because there's only one reason your doctors can't make a visit. Like if they were to tell you to get your hands checked out. Or if they were to tell you to take an IVA shot instead of a regular visit. And in many cases, doctors don't have the time to do such things.

I am an optometrist, so my job is to determine whether an eye is open, or not. In my experience, if it’s clear, it is. I don’t talk to a patient, or anyone for that matter, unless they specifically asked for me to do so. If I talk to a patient, it is because they asked for help with something that is not an eye problem. In that case, it’s my job to determine if it’s a medical issue (e.g., a seizure, aneurysm, etc.) and/or is a visual problem. In the medical field, this is done by a physician, who then has a patient. They have a doctor who does not do that, so I typically work with patients who have the same issue (e.g., a cataract, a cataracts, a stroke). It’s not my job to talk to a patient, though. That is your job. If they are having a difficult time with whatever medical issue they are having, that doctor can certainly talk to you about it. The other thing that comes to my mind is how inappropriate it would be for someone to discuss medical issues with a patient. They would think that would be professional and appropriate. I think that’s why I do not discuss medical issues with a patient, as I have my own career. I discuss with colleagues and I am very confident they will not think that’s inappropriate. I will say that my job is not without its difficulties. However, I can assure you that I am a highly trained individual and I will not let anyone, not even patients, be put at risk simply by discussing medical issues. Thank you for your patience.

I think the patient is the one making the decision. It’s not like it’s a mistake, it’s not like it’s a sign of something wrong. Like, if you could just think straight, you’d be able to find the answer.
You're doing fine. I would also make sure to put my foot down on this. The vast majority of issues I come across are either issues with poor vision or with cataracts or other visual issues. My partner is not an eye doctor and I'm very grateful for his service. In fact, I consider myself very lucky to have a partner who has such a keen understanding of the need of light. It doesn't come from having a particular set of recommendations, but rather because our partner is such an expert in his field. He is an astute and his knowledge of light and anatomy has helped us tremendously. in getting me to understand how light works in our eyes, and the importance of wearing a good eye lens. I don't think it is appropriate for a physician to talk to a person without proper patient without having the knowledge and understanding of the proper tools to help us.
