You should probably tell the police about your friend since he's on probation right now and your friend is likely going to end up in jail anyways. Make sure you tell them about this one too. You are not overthinking it. You should just leave him alone and not try to ruin his life. You're probably overthinking it and trying to make him feel guilty.
