Easy three pass shave, great results. It's an effective setup, though I am definitely missing my other brushes.

    • Brush: Zenith B44 28mm Boar
    • Razor: Koraat 14 "Moarteen" 15/16" Full Hollow
    • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - I, Rich Moose (Mutton -r/Wetshaving) - Soap
    • Toner: Thayers - Cucumber - Toner
    • Aftershave: Stirling Soap Co. - I, Rich Moose - Aftershave
    • Fragrance: Mäurer & Wirtz - Sir Irisch Moos - Eau de Cologne

3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

How does Koraat steel look after two weeks of shaving without a single stropping lap? Well, here you go. All I can say is that it shaves as good as it looks.

And, how is Stirling's Irisch Moos dupe do when matched with Stirling's mutton tallow base? Well, it's even better than you might think!

Here's a video with some thoughts for beginning straight razor shavers.

    • Wow, very minimal difference in the pictures for being 2 weeks in.

      • Yes, and the feel of the edge is still terrific. Now, of course, Ulrik is exceptional in tempering his steel and I’m counting on that. People complain that it is difficult to sharpen. It isn’t, but you do need to realize what you’re working with.

  • August 15th, 2025: AA Day 15

    • Brush: Proraso - Professional Boar
    • Razor: Weck - Sextoblade Med Prep
    • Blade: Fromm Hair Shaper
    • Lather: Mike's Natural Soaps - Vetiver - Soap
    • Post Shave: Catie's Bubbles - 322 - Aftershave

Shave was a little rough today. Getting the angle right with the Weck is getting easier each day and at this point, I am glad I am using it for the month. I don't get perfect shaves with it, but it is pretty fun once you start to get the hang of it.

  • Day 15/31 of Riding through Serenity in Austerity

    • Brush: Zenith - 506 N XS (extra soft horse)
    • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur 50 (7/8", hollow ground, stainless steel, masonic deco)
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Roam
    • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann – Roam Two
    • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann – Roam Two

I've been doing AA stropless until today (didn't pack one for my travel), and it was fine, but I was still curious about the difference. It's not a night and day difference, but I think it felt a bit smoother.

So.. Stropping helps, who knew 😅

  • August 15th, 2025: Interesting

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts - w/Maggard 30mm Badger
    • Razor: Gold Dollar Straight Razor (8)
    • Lather: House of Mammoth - Santa Noir - Soap
    • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Hamami - Aftershave
    • Post Shave: Dove - Men+Care Ultra-Hydra - Cream
    • Fragrance: Berceuse Parfum - Minneapolis 5.3 - EdP

Such an interesting and great shave. I'll have to experiment with this technique some more. I skipped WTG altogether, and pulled a @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social. 2.5 passes (cleanup on the fat neck parts as per usual), and the first pass was against the grain mostly. It felt great, honestly, especially with my newfound low-angle technique.

This razor really surprises me sometimes. It shouldn't be this good. It's cheap (and inexpensive!), and the history of honing that I've done to it would make any expert blush.

No aftershave burn, but there are a couple of patches which my new technique missed.

Obligatory plug for https://wetshav.ing/ for anyone who wants to try PieFed, a Lemmy alternative.

Also, if you can see this you're probably all set, but I think some people are having some visibility problems because of language settings. Check your Lemmy account and make sure "English" and "Undetermined" are selected (hold Ctrl to select both of them).
