Why didn’t the German Army invade France during WW2?

It's a shame the German army didn't land in France, but at least the HRE landed there. They had a good hold on that land until the Allies invaded, then it fell to the Germans to take it. It was a shame, but it was the Germans.

Island in general and France in particular are both part of the Normandy Peninsula (all the way across the HRE to Belgium, where they had their stronghold, and the Duchy of Normandy). When Germany invaded France, they moved the HRE to the border with Belgium, which they held until the allied invasion. This is how they got to hold on to the Normandy Peninsula. And Normandy Peninsula in particular is a key strategic location for the HRE. The Germans did not invade Normandy Peninsula, but the HRE did.
