I'm personally kind of conflicted. I thought Pale Fire had some really beautiful and stirring bits, and I really liked the narrative mechanism. I thought it was very creative.
Lolita has some skillful writing, but I'm not sure I think the premise is ok. It's pretty fucked up.
I haven't read anything else by him yet, but he has quite a few other books.
