'Qualified immunity' protects Wisconsin cop who shot and killed escaping hostage, and other cops who handcuffed and detained the hostages

It makes no fucking sense these people can legally do anything they want to with no recourse. Penalty should be harshest for anyone in a public service role who fails to uphold the will of the people. Let alone for the ones fucking murdering us

- But if they're not above the law they might identify with common folk instead of their paymasters who are equally above the law.
Detaining hostages makes sense sometimes, if there's a risk of the hostage takers disguising themselves as a hostage to escape.
Shooting hostages makes a lot less sense
- Yeah. I have training in hostage negotiations. It's common practice that everyone gets detained until the scene is secured which is when they then start working out who's who. The two most dangerous times during a hostage situation is at the beginning, and during surrender.
- The article doesn't tell me how long they were detained, but yeah, the cops needed to make sure none of the hostages were really Butch Cassidy waiting to meet up with Sundance. Not every thing every cop does is ridiculous.
  Can't see handcuffing the victims, though, or as you've noted, shooting one of them dead. Craig Hoffer and Robert Ross ought to be in prison.
