Even Moldova can do this while Germany is okay with Gerhard Schröder having a well-paying job in Russian Gazprom
We were also okay with Chancellor Kohl not naming the origin of money for his party. It's kind of a tradition.
However Schröder did it in the open, which made it possible to remove his influence. So we may disagree with his affiliation but we should respect the way he handled the money.
Most of the German industry wasn't particularly happy about the sanctions . The current government has set out to remove general checks for companies to uphold supply chain law and sanctions. Instead the government wants to rely on "trust" and rare random checks.
As his bank, Sparkasse Hannover, finally doesn't conduct the payments from russia anymore, he is at the moment basically working for free.
Maybe the real payment was the friends he made along the way
