I don't think it's got that connotation in this case.
In any case, it's on display in Amsterdam and I have to say, if it wasn't for vG's later works, Potato Eaters would have long since faded into obscurity. He just didn't pull it off imo.
Crazy how that was a racial insult.
I feel a great deal of pity for those too good for potatoes. In addition to having some of the best nutrition of any vegetable, they're fucking delicious.
