Even their scientific means stinky. Poor guys!
The generic name Sternotherus is derived from the Greek word sternon, meaning chest or breast, and theros, meaning animal, in reference to the hinge on the turtles' plastron. The trivial name, or specific epithet odoratus is Latin, meaning to have an odor, referencing the scent of the musk from the scent glands that the turtles can produce when under stress or attack.

That's an intense stare

That one is pretty sensitive. It was gone for a few weeks so it could get more quiet and solitude since it was physically fine, but not eating.
It looks great though and I hear it's doing better so I'm very hopeful for it! I just had to pop my head in on it today and see that cute little face.
