Trump's net rating among Gen Z voters has deteriorated sharply, falling from -23 points in May to -41 points last month.
Donald Trump is facing a sharp backlash from young voters, with new polling showing his approval rating among Generation Z has dropped to one of its lowest points yet.
The latest YouGov/Yahoo poll, conducted between June 26-30 among 1,597 adults, shows that among Gen Z voters, his net rating has deteriorated sharply, falling from -23 points in May to -41 points in June.
Net ratings do have a tendency to swing much more than a simple approval rating. Still, the president's approval rating in June is low, at 27 percent. The margin of error is at plus or minus 3.2 percent.
Lucas Walsh, a youth political behavior expert and professor at Monash University, told Newsweek that Trump's falling support among Gen Z voters may reflect how young people "respond to issues rather than party allegiances."
What amazes me is that there are still people who look at what Donald Trump has done in his life, what he has said and done to become president (twice!) and what he's done since taking office. They look at all this, take a big huff of their own farts and say "I approve of this"
I can't imagine that it takes anything less than a very special kind of cognitive disability to be intelligent enough to use twitter, but dumb enough to support this petulant, stroppy, bafflingly stupid man-toddler.
There has been a concerted effort for the last 15 to 20 years by the alt-right to court young disillusioned men and women using divisiveness and the slowly declining status quo as a lever.
Doesn't matter that the insanely wealthy right wing is primarily responsible for pushing the deterioration, it only matters that the insanely wealthy liberals in the government haven't done anything substantive to stop it.
For reference, see Nancy Pelosi's fucking dedicated ice cream fridge she showed off in an interview to seem relatable.
You would t believe the false propagandized worlds these people live in. I have a close friend that turned his head towards this stuff over the years I’ve been trying my best pull back. But I mean it’s 100% like science fiction. They can say gravity isn’t real and these people would believe it. It’s very sad. It’s usually rooted in fear tactics and it overrides any logic. Lots of doubles speak too. Many really believe trump just wants to get rid of criminals. That’s the party line, but it’s double speak for migrants
Those stats might affect the adoration of his groupies, and how many are re-elected.
Most horribly of all, we have Vance thinking he can step into the big orange footprints to be ordained next. We can’t have that weasel elected. It would be more of the same but more evil, less self-centered gibberish
too late for post-nut clarity, kids. he's not just a person he's a cultural moment y'all embraced and is going to take a lot more of a "well maybe he's not that great for the economy" to unfuck ourselves from. how about some introspection about why we're attracted to narcissists or so deeply spiritually moved by shitty tough-man antics? where's that political analysis?
If you didn't recognize what he was after the disaster that was his first administration, all his admission of what he said he would do, and then still either voted for him or didn't vote because you didn't recognize the repeat threat he was and couldn't get off your fat ass to vote to prevent him from taking office, I'm sorry, but you're in the group of people who can't handle responsibilities of being a fucking adult.
Nah, right wingers have been actively targeting young people for decades, and still do now. They're literally playing Roblox with your children.
Want to know why there were so many conservative Gen Zs? Gamergate.
We can't pretend this is just passive, from the parent kind of stuff. The right has and continues to actively target children in their spaces in ways that us on the left just have too much integrity to. I'm not saying we should start counter-indoctrinating children, but we need to be realistic and honest with ourselves about the situation.
What the fuck is wrong with kids listening to their shitty parents?
/I know a lot of people get raised wrong in households that teach them wrong things and it takes a lot of effort to get better, but... it's pretty astounding to me to imagine someone listening to their parents tell them that Donald fucking Trump is a Cool Guy.
I think people forget that the 19 year olds voting for him were 10 when the “Grab ‘em by the pussy” shit happened. Not that it’s an excuse to not pay attention but a lot of the people who voted for him didn’t have the benefit of hindsight and spent the entire pandemic alone in their rooms listening to Joe Rogan and Andrew Tate.
Yeah, and it also feels "forever ago" when you're that age. Literally half their lives. So I could understand them thinking it's "old news", but when you're an old and crusty 40 year old, you know that a 60 someone saying heinous shit means that person is deeply twisted.
I was just at lunch, the table next door had a bunch of Trump gear on, even the teenagers. I overheard bits of conversation and it was totally normal stuff, which makes me wonder what attracts people to such a gross person
If you’re just watching the evening news and not looking into things further, Trump is not painted in such as light as we see in say articles linked here on Lemmy. Abrego Garcia? Well that was just one mistake. Mistakes happen right? I’m sure they’ll fix it. Then you move on with the rest of your life without giving it more thought. I think that is how seemingly “normal” people buy into this.
The polling numbers after the election were horrifying. GenZ are like the Hitler Youth of today. Not just voting Trump because their parents were Republicans and influenced their political outlook, but enthusiastically embracing Trump because of memes and TikTok, not actually considering the consequences carefully.
It's shameful, because even though most GenZ kids were not old enough to vote, they were almost old enough to vote back in 2016 when Trump took office the first time. It's not like they are looking back at the early years of politics from their childhood fondly, they were definitely old enough to be able to see how destructive he was.
Gen Z was explicitly not taught how to read properly. It’s very difficult to not be conspiracist and think it was on purpose. Phonics was thrown out entirely for years. Teachers spoke up about it not working, and were forced to work the programs anyway.
When you're young you want to rebel against the establishment. They are being told the establishment wants rights for women and gays and men's rights are being taken away. So they are going the opposite direction to be contrarian. Unfortunately young men at that age have very little empathy for anyone else. They have to know what's in it for them.
Dumbasses needed to see him do it live rather than google the existing data on how disastrous his last term was. Last time he was in office, they were listening to Baby Shark. "It happened 5 years ago so that's ancient history. I've got better things to do, like doomscrolling Tiktok for 8 hours"
The people who support Trump en masse are not really represented here. His dedicated base absolutely love everything he is doing. Especially the immigrant Holocaust he has started.
This discontent does not appear to be translating into strong support for Democrats. The Quantus poll suggests that young voters are feeling politically homeless, with 43 percent of Gen Z voters saying that neither party represents American values.
His polling numbers dont matter. Either he cannot run for president again or he fucks up the government bad enough to allow him to, in which case the vote is going to be rigged AF anyway.
If he hasn't had a heart from all the hamberders by the next election cycle I guarantee he will run for president again and it'll be up to congress and or the supreme court to stop him. Depending on the make up of those to entities I think there's a chance they would stop him.
Im gen z and I voted Harris. I also attended no kings Chicago. Not all of us are just sitting and watching this happen but enough are that it makes us look bad.
What's worse is dems might win and those same dumbasses that voted for them will question why they didn't unfuck decades of this shit in a single term and then sit on their lazy asses the election after.
Yeah. They expect to lose the midterms. Let the bill kick in, and then blame the Democrats for it. ‘How could they let this happen?! Vote for us in 2028 to get your healthcare back’ or something like that.
IF it's from Newsweek, it's just a shitty clickbait title with nothing of actual substance in the actual article. Lemmy users need to stop posting Newsweek links, it is not a good source to trust.
They hate the "system". The system includes our democracy and going out to vote. They don't believe their votes matter so they don't vote, things don't go their way and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.
They believe in burning stuff down. Not voting. But even the agitprop kids are a small minority. They're just really loud and destructive.
