It looks to be a lean year at this year's San Diego Comic-Con as most major movie studios are sitting out Hall H, including Marvel Studios.
Isn’t this the same thing that killed E3?
Yep, and now all the big companies do their own shows on their own time using their considerable budget while the smaller companies and indie devs get shoved into a diaspora of smaller cons and events that limit their reach.

I don’t think this is really a win. Con’s are a captive target audience and all the groundwork is done for you. I think this is going to backfire as it increases competition for attention and audience.
E3 was designed for journalists to drum up coverage/hype and it cost each exhibitor money to participate. Consumers were the secondary audience.
Cons are primarily designed to sell to the consumer. I would think they’d be thrilled to have DC, Disney, Marvel, etc there to hawk their wares instead of charging them an exhibit fee. Getting free press out of it is a byproduct. More important is the word of mouth and goodwill the appearance generates. Something you’re not going to get from a privately held event designed for journalists.
If there is still a voice actors panel, then Comic-Con is still worth the price of admission
Ironic, everyone I know is skipping Comic Con this year, so 🤷🏼♂️ No loss all around, I guess. 🤌🏼
