Mine picks at the side of the mattress until I give in and swing my legs out, then she runs off to the food bowl to eat the biscuits that are always there overnight. She doesn’t even need me to do that!
My tortie comes at me right after i hit snooze on my alarm. I hear her peurring in my ear right before she starts licking my chin. She wants fed, but she doesn't understand that being super cuddly is a bad tactic since it makes me want to stay in bed all morning
Same with one of my cats. The majority of the day she doesn't seek out attention or show all that much affection besides during feeding time. But as soon as I get in bed, she's there instantly purring loudly and stomping all over my chest begging for intense rubs.
It is a dominance display. Cats deliberately break your personal space to assert that they are the boss of the house.
Usually, means they want something and are mad you aren't listening. So, they try to get you to capitulate by "showing who's boss". Could also just mean they are feeling cheeky and wanting to remind you "of your place" while they cuddle up to you.
Idk why ppl say dominance. I think cats are less bothered by hierarchy then most animals. I got a "you bother me sometimes, I bother you sometimes" relationship with my cat.
Because displays of dominance are a very well documented aspect of feline psychology and behavior, considering they are inherently territorial creatures.
Depends on the cat and the relationship you have with the cat.
Dominance is also shorthand for the threat/wariness and manipulation thing that is part of the cat nature. Cats have a quick and very reactive nervous system. If a dog is a sedan or a truck, a cat is a two seat sports car. Cats are also manipulative as fuck. They'd be quite sociopathic if they were human.
