On this day, during the battle of Gettysburg, the 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment charged Confederates attacking Cemetery Ridge to plug a gap in the Union's defense. They were outnumbered and lost 82% of the regiment, but gave the Union 15 minutes to get reinforcements when they were only asked for 5.
