Trump ends trade talks with Canada over tax on US tech firms
President Trump announced that that he is calling off trade negotiations with Canada in retaliation for taxes impacting US tech firms: 'Based on this egregious Tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately.'

President Donald Trump said on Friday, June 27, that he is calling off trade negotiations with Canada in retaliation for taxes impacting US tech firms, adding that Ottawa will learn of their new tariff rate within a week.
Trump was referring to Canada's digital services tax, which was enacted last year and forecast to bring in Can$5.9 billion (US4.2 billion) over five years. While the measure is not new, US service providers will be "on the hook for a multi-billion dollar payment in Canada" come June 30, noted the Computer & Communications Industry Association recently.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, capitulating to Trump is a lost cause. it will never be enough, ignore the US and move on. They're no longer allies until the fascism is stamped out of them.
The PM should just:
- Raise all tariffs on all American products to 500%.
- Turn off all exports of raw materials to the USA.
- Cut off all electricity to the USA.
- Cut off all water to the USA.
Then never do business with the USA ever again; start building up relationships with nations that aren't filled to the brim with hateful assholes.
I really hope this will finally push the Canadian government to ditch Microsoft for FOSS alternatives like Europe is beginning to do.
Trade negotiations with Trump are pointless anyway. It was himself that ripped up his own trade agreement and pissed all over Canada.
