I'm a typewriter fan. 15 days ago, I asked the admins of lemmy.cafe to be nominated moderator of !typewriters@lemmy.cafe which was abandoned and they quickly and kindly answered positively.
I'm not sure it's a good strategy, but for a month and a half I post links to all typewriter-related blogposts, YouTube videos and podcasts that appear in my RSS-feed, and I have a handful upvotes for every post, so at least a few persons find them interesting. And three other persons published things since I begun, even if each one published only once; it's more than in the months that preceded my implication. It's still not much, but I'm quite happy with the result for now!
I also created !typecasts@sh.itjust.works, which is a home for things published with a typewriter but not necessarily about typewriters. It's even more niche than !typewriters@lemmy.cafe, nobody but me ever published, but it works I guess.

I finally noticed this place moved! 😅
Superbowl is still doing well. I felt there was a slump for a bit in traffic for a bit, but numbers are back to normal. Comments feel a little slower and I don't think as many regulars are commenting.
I've been checking lemvotes occasionally out of curiosity to see who my random downvoters are, and I see everyone is still stopping by and liking things, but maybe they don't have anything to say.
I'm also feeling they don't like baby owls as much as adults, which is kinda surprising. It seems all the baby posts pick up less votes.
I've been trying to make the Dusky Eagle Owl more popular. I really enjoy them, and I've gotten a bunch of pics of them recently and they have very house cat like faces. I enjoyed my genuine non-AI rendition of their similarities.
That generated some fun comments for a bit. People definitely like that stuff and my bad photo edits much more than AI stuff I've played with. That seems to get people angry.
I've been getting some "new" owl content ready to share. Rarer things they haven't seen yet, there's still many owls we haven't looked at as a group yet.
A lot of people enjoy my tales from the clinic and seeing some of the other animals I work with as well. It's nice to sneak in occasional non-owl content.

AI stuff I’ve played with. That seems to get people angry.
kek yeah lemmy is pretty AI-hostile. I noticed that on !cyberpunk@lemmy.zip, even tho it explicitly allows AI art they disparaged someone for posting a fanfic that had AI art in it.
It's often fun when people ask "simple" things too. Like last night someone asked if the owls that live in cacti live there for the spiney protection, and while that was my thought, I decided to finally verify it by reading about the particular woodpecker species that make the holes originally. I was surprised to see nothing mentioned the protection as a physical hazard provided by it being thorny, but as prevention from the climate of the desert. The cactus insulates from the heat of the day and the cold of the night, basically a cave in plant form.
They also excavate the hole in advance of when they will need it to nest. I never thought about that either, but as the cactus is soggy inside, that wouldn't make the best nest, so they bore out their hole and give it plenty of time for the plant to dry out / repair the damage and it kind of crusts over to make a nice interior for the birds that is solid and dry.
You guys basically make me think about things I may otherwise not think about. Plus you all come at me with so many memes and cultural references that I don't know about, so I learn a lot from interacting with everybody. I think I work a bit different than a lot of posters though. I don't feel I see as many other people that get as conversational with their audience or that really want their posts to expand. I love when we go off topic or explorer things, and I don't know if that's the same everywhere.
I've done some AI spoofs of stuff with owls instead of people, and even tried out some calling out of AI images being passed off as real and talking about how to ID them a bit, and people just plain do not want to see AI images here. Even as educational/warning things. I come across a lot of it, and it's getting fairly convincing. It was nice to see Last Week Tonight cover it this week in context to watering down legit info and crowding out factual things, especially on social media platforms. I'm glad people like my crappy doodles and shops. It's usually fairly ugly, but it's quicker than getting an AI pic I like, and at least you'll know I did it myself. 😄
Thankfully I can still find a lot of images I want to demonstrate things between regular images, textbooks, research papers, and such since people love raptors. Memey stuff being jokes anyway may even be "enhanced" by my poor quality work.

To be fair, your owl-cat hybrid is super cute and authentic, so I'm definitely not surprised that people prefer it over AI stuff!
It was so uncanny every time I went back to the post to reply to someone! The proportions were so identical, even the little smirk shaped mouth and technically the whiskers, though they aren't as long and go a different direction, were there. It just needed a nose instead of a beak.
So many times I'm scrolling All and get my hopes up that I see another person posting an owl, but then I see it's another cat photo.
It did come out really adorable in a "let's hang this one in the refrigerator" kind of way. 😊 I'm glad you liked it too.

!gothindustrial@lemmy.world is going pretty well, multiple posters most days; posts usually get at least 3-5 upvotes if an unknown artist, or 15 plus or minus 3 for a known artist. I've been posting goth-adjacent cartoons there and those usually get 20+ upvotes. Not a lot of comments, but I guess that's bc we don't tend to make "open question" style posts.
