Why it matters: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is already $1 billion over budget by one estimate, with more than three months left in the fiscal year. That's alarmed lawmakers in both parties — and raised the possibility of Trump clawing funds from agencies to feed ICE.
Trumps attempt at creating a fascist dictator regime is collapsing.
The Military parade clearly showed he doesn't have the backup of the military.
People are beginning to mass protest, and the no kings protests were way more successful than the parade.
Republican politicians are becoming more reluctant in their support.
Courts are often judging against him.
When Trump ups the ante resistance increases.
That means Trump doesn't really control any part of the nation the way a dictator is supposed to, and his attempts to achieve it are failing.
Obviously the flawed democracy of USA is not safe yet, but if the trend continues, there is hope USA may get through this eventually.
You are right, it has not collapsed yes, but it is collapsing. And I don't think it's possible now for him to finish it. Things looked much worse a month ago.
I'm sorry but TACO Don continues to flaunt the law without consequences. A crappy parade does not mean he has no support from theemilitary still willing to follow illegal orders
You guys are making progress but cannot relent. So far the biggest damage to TACO has been caused by his own mediocrity and stupidity
I'm not saying Trump isn't awful, and things aren't bad. I also clearly state democracy in USA isn't safe yet.
But Trump is failing more than he is succeeding.
I am not American, but I really hope they will work to improve democracy. The concept of a president controlling the entire administration is both awful and not representative of the population. A democracy that result in a 2 party system is only barely a democracy.
He is probably trying just that, because it's common knowledge that a war normally has the effect that people back the current president/administration while fighting an exterior enemy.
Problem for Trump is, that he can't find a war to fight that is plausibly legitimate. Only a small minority is buying it with Iran, and he doesn't have any other options.
In 1930's Germany, the NAZI party had the same logistics and financial cost of displacement problems. They figured out a solution. This freezes my blood.
It's clear that ICE is morally bankrupt, but I thought that its restructuring into a secret police force would be financed by these absurd import tariffs, which are so broad in scope that they are basically tantamount to a massive VAT increase.
But the orange clown has set them way too high; the rates he's imposed are just as likely to cause way fewer imports, and therefore not nearly as much gov revenue as he thinks
Yes, it still amounts to billions in additional tax revenue, which is of course paid for by US citizens rather than the manufacturing countries – but this sum is probably already reserved for the planned tax cuts for the super-rich.
The plan is presumably to finance Trump's private army through additional cuts in healthcare, environmental protection, education, and all other areas that are counterproductive to fascism.
I'm not a US citizen, but I think this country is screwed.
It's cause he can't dictate that. Tariffs are just income to pay bills, congress sets budgets and even they aren't too happy with a budget that's increased spending. So it's even likely his increases to ICE DHS that he requested won't make it through.
He could try to siphon money from elsewhere, but that'd just get caught up in the courts (and he'd probably loose as congress owns the purse).
The Republicans control both houses of Congress. But the usual rules don't seem to apply anymore. Isn't Trump currently starting a war without the approval of Congress?
I keep seeing posts like this, but the sad truth is they are going to be just fine. The DHS just got a 65% increase in their budget for 2026 to go to 60 billion dollars. I believe this is the largest percentage increase since it began. That is almost 4x the budget of NASA and includes 40 billion in discretionary spending. (https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/Fiscal-Year-2026-Discretionary-Budget-Request.pdf)
Even if they run out of money before September, Congress will trip over themselves to give them more money. There are zero checks on Noem at this point.
Correct, they can print all the money they want, it's fake tied to nothing.
TACO will just say some stupid thing to justify it and it will continue. It has been shown that there are no checks and balances that can be or willing to be put in place.
I didn't read the article but again it's another reminder that the mainstream news isn't going to really report in anything.
ICE budget over by a billion, yeah no shit did you think all these cosplayers were already in the payroll and just hanging out at their bases looking at all the gear they have.
That budget hasn't been passed yet to my knowledge. Not to mention the president's budget request never makes it through, as the house and senate always have their own priorities.
It’s already passed the house. The senate plans on voting on it by July 4th. So far, no push back from senate republicans on the DHS side of things.
According to Wikipedia:
“The Republican-led Senate is expected to amend the bill.[63] Fiscally conservative Republican Senators (nicknamed "deficit hawks") such as Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Rick Scott of Florida, Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky, have pushed for deeper spending cuts.[63][64] Moderate Republicans such as Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Jerry Moran of Kansas, along with populist Josh Hawley of Missouri, have expressed concerns about Medicaid cuts.[63][65] Other moderates such as John Curtis of Utah and Thom Tillis of North Carolina, along with Murkowski and Moran, have also expressed concerns over the end of green energy tax credits.[63] Defense hawks such as Mike Rounds of South Dakota are opposed to spectrum auction provisions in the bill.”
Edit: charge them fines for the shit they pulled, sell off their gear, do the sane for any cop or agency that collaborated. Even set a precedent that complying with illegal orders is bad and you shouldn't! We won't do any of that, but we could!
I'm just spitballing, but could we cut services that help people to pay for this bullshit? Like, maybe everything good that my taxes pay for could be re-routed to hurting people? I dunno, just a thought. /s
