Meta rolled back protections. Now hate is surging - What we're seeing: More hate, more fear, less freedom.
On January 7, 2025, Meta announced sweeping changes to its content moderation policies, including the end of third-party fact-checking in the U.S., and rollbacks to its hate speech policy globally that remove protections for women, people of color, trans people, and more. In the absence of data from Meta, we decided to go straight to users to assess if and how harmful content is manifesting on Meta platforms in the wake of January rollbacks.
I mean it's been proven again and again that this is the way meta operates, for what, 10-15 years?
Would be time to wake up.
I'm happy that facebook is dying out more and more in Sweden. If it weren't for local groups coordinating in "Facebook groups" I believe it would be crashing even faster.
How many people use Facebook?
Here is a list of how many internet users of different ages use Facebook daily (In Sweden, 2024):- 49% of all internet users aged 8 or older

Facebook might be going away, but it's other platforms?
Instagram is as strong as ever, WhatsApp is the default communication app for a lot of people and basically replaced SMS for a lot of countries... and the metaverse (that one was dead on arrival though).
Facebook itself is on life support of those local groups and Amazon marketplace (practically modern Craigslists). but saying it's dying is an exaggeration.
on top of that, they can set the industry standard, so if Facebook allows hate speech with no consequences, and it increases engagement, all other social media will do so.
