Agree with antifascist stuff. Just nitpicking the fascist idiot's idiotic words: what the hell is an example of a non-politically-motivated assassination?? isn't every assassination politically motivated?
I suddenly realised I don't actually know the difference of somebody being murdered or assassinated. I searched it, turns out there's various definitions. Most have either sneaky-peaky or prominent (political?) meanings.
We can go further and describe everything we do and every way in which we interact with others as "politically motivated" because politics is literally just dealing with someone else. If there were two people left on earth, there would be politics. If there was only one person left, there would finally be no politics.
And that's my platform when I run: no more politics 2028! lets gooooo!
The old 3.5e Epic Level Handbook had 10th level spells, and the rules surrounding their use.
So, maybe you could use a 10th level spell slot to stengthen Wish?
I haven't played D&D this century, and the last Pathfinder I ran was lower level and we only did 1 or 2 actual play sessions before scheduling fell apart. (Also, I'm a pretty bad DM, even working from an existing published campaign; people just want me to be GM because I can remember rules.)
In my experience they never get it. It is fun to make fun of them. Once they reveal themselves, they become very predictable and even when called out as to how they will respond, they do it anyway like an npc.
In the picture in this post, the person who read the "down with fascism" message expressed disappointment with the person's message, thus revealing that they are associating fascism with their own political leaning.
In your example, the left-winger just mentions a name of someone else they don't like in response, which isn't even connected to the topic.
You're missing the point that certain political ideologies have very strong connections with each other. Except one side is arguably connected to many much worse terms.
You can say "down with authoritarian marxists!" and you might get a few tankies to pipe up and say "wow I can't believe you are attacking the glorious people's blah blah blah" to which you can say "aha called out your politics!" but nobody really takes tankies seriously anyway nor are they a threat to modern nation-building the same way they were a century or two ago.
It doesn't matter that we're correct that right-wingers are fascists while they're wrong that we're pedophiles. The rhetoric works exactly the same in either case.
As I responded to the other commenter, right-wingers are obviously well aware that left-wingers will call them fascists, even if they do not consider themselves fascist and hold a negative perspective of fascism. I consider pedophiles bad but I'm aware that right-wing people are going to call me one just because I'm gay.
In a flipped conversation, where the third commenter is a right-winger who says "look, you didn't deny being a pedophile!," I'm sure they would take a screenshot of the conversation and post it to twitter and get lots of upvotes since that looks like such an own. They'd probably even say they can tell by my disappointment that I was implicitly acknowledging I'm a pedophile.
If your clever comeback sounds exactly as smooth coming out of the enemy's mouth, it's not a very good comeback.
Well yeah, obviously. The right wing, regardless of whether they consider themselves fascist or not, are obviously aware that left is going to call them out for being fascists. Just as I'm aware that when right-wing people say "pedophiles" they likely are talking about queer people. It's not going to go over anyone's head.
Yeah this happened once during the 2020 July protests in Serbia. As we walked, we passed a WW2 memorial and the guy leading the group took a moment to stop, comment on it and chant "death to fascism" a few times. Then out of the blue two guys started yelling "death to communism".
To be fair, "death to fascism, freedom to the people" is a communist slogan known by everyone from ex-Yugoslavia, but getting triggered by someone disavowing fascism right next to a statue that shows how fascists murdered civilians in raids in your own city is... worrying.
For some reason there seems to be this idea that everything must either be fascist or communist or somewhere between. Like they don't believe in the existence of other political philosophies.
They're obsessed with the political spectrum being one-dimensional, it isn't.
"I cast that wish at level 9" is a weird phrasing. So far as I know Wish is already level 9, so there's no other level to cast it at. Older editions had "limited wish" but I don't believe they had upcasting. It feels very "how do you do fellow children"
DnD is also a game that utilizes table rules pretty much all the time. It's possible that his DM gave more flexible rules, I know my DM will if you have a convincing argument.
But also, buddy definitely says "you're one of the good ones" to his black coworkers
I love threads where there's the one person downvoting a benign comment, like "fuck fascists." It must be lonely on Lemmy for those people. I sure hope it is.
"Politically motivated assassinations"? Should we bring up the comparative list of politically-motivated extremist incidents in the US and see which side is enacting most of the violence?
The Minnesota ones are particularly interesting. The Democrats had a one-seat advantage in both chambers of the Minnesota legislature. The assassin specifically targeted one Democratic member of each chamber. The Minnesota House is now tied, and the Senate will be tied until Hoffman is able to work or (or Minnesota allows it, I'm not sure) is about to designate someone to vote for him.
Matt would be too nice to tear you to shreds in an argument. Many of the others probably just wouldn't engage. Sam enjoys conflict and uncomfortable situations.
It's referring to a scene involving Sam Riegel in the first Critical Role campaign. He's basically establishing he's a 'fan', though also being a Nazi is weird af.
these are so cringe lol. It sounds like it is coming from someone who once read something on the internet and pretends like he has been part of this since college
I don't want to be fair to fascists but the current social context does align leftism with labeling the fascists/GOP as "fascists".
Similarly to how 15 years ago someone shouting "let's go, Brandon!" would make you check that hadn't been teleported into the middle of a little league baseball game versus now where you just check how close the nearest exit is.
Edit:
We know who the fascists are. They know they're fascists. There's no reason to act like this was some Rube-Goldbergian word trap that caught out a hidden impostor. This just tripped up an idiot who probably hasn't mastered walking and using slurs at the same time yet. Their masks have already been torn off ages ago. If y'all think playing coy with fascists is some great, newsrag "SLAM" then have fun.
I suppose I shouldn't say anything bad about Nazis, either, since the GOP gets compared to Nazis? Give me a break. Maybe instead of listening for dog-whistles, they should look into why those comparisons are being made in the first place.
Do I sound like I care that Nazis are malding? If so, pardon me. I'm just saying it doesn't feel like much of a gotcha to say "they're answering to 'fascists'!" when they're rightfully called "fascist" more than their political party nowadays.
Probably hot take, but from the point of view of a conservative the "fascist" OOP just mentioned is a strawman and a very unpleasant one to be associated with at that, so no wonder they would attack the very idea of association after everyone starts spreading it.
If you looked inside their mind, that's probably what you'd see. They're conditioned to be in this perpetual state of persecution. It's sad, really, they don't even get that there's fascism happening so they think any mentions of it are insults.
But that doesn't excuse anything, they should know better. They're bad people helping a bad cause and there's nothing wrong with being mean to them.
Even if that was the case, the conservatives' counter argument never addresses why the association with facism, white supremacy, Nazism would supposedly be false. It's always a knee-jerk "actually you guys are bad." Not doing much to counter the association.
