I'm blind as hell without my glasses and I never remember to bring my extra pair so if I'm wearing my sunglasses they stay on no matter what. If it was only going to be a few minutes I wouldn't swap even if I had my normal pair.
I never understood the "sunglasses indoors in douchey" thing anyway.
I don't get it either. If people wear sunglasses, whether inside or outside, they chose to wear them for a reason. Even if the reason is just "forgot to take them off". No one's deliberately wearing sunglasses to be rude to you...
I never take sunglasses off inside, unless there's an actual reason (like not enough light, or if I need to see colors correctly when shopping). There's always too much light everywhere, it's always too bright, and it's even worst at night because of the contrast between the darkness and the blinding lampposts. So light sunglasses everywhere.
As a bonus, that way I never have to bother with eye contact. Couldn't care less if people think it's rude: if I took the sunglasses off I'd inevitably forget to make eye contact and they would think it was rude anyway. Fuck eye contact.
Indoor lighting with sunglasses on is too dim for my tastes. Alternatively, my shades might be too dark. I'll put them in my bag or on the brim of my hat, if one or the other are available.
What i hate is when someone gets offended i don't initially recognise them when they've got half their face covered.
Take the fucken glasses off and say hi properly you awkward ass bastards! I got shit to do, and i don't need to feel bad for the next half hour because you made me squint to recognise who the fuck you are!
A few years ago, I went out and brought myself a nice pair of perscription sunglasses, trouble was I didn’t have any spare cash to buy regular glasses. So, for about 2-3 years I had shades on everywhere I went, day or night. What I noticed is that if you’re confident enough people don’t really mind or act any different. Now that I have both, I easily keep the sunglasses on without noticing and there is no fuss usually unless I go into a bank or something.
Whenever I see someone with sunglasses inside, I always chalk it up to a) not being arsed to remove them, b) light-sensitivity due to migraine/hangover, or c) being on some sort of drug (sunglasses = invisibility cloak/comfort blanket for some folks).
All of these are totally valid. Douchey is as douchey does, if folks are acting polite/keeping to themselves I don't judge.
Here 's one more. I wear glasses for my bad eyesight. I have sunglasses that have the same value of correction. Sometimes, in the summer, when I'm out and I don't think I'll go inside anywhere, I leave my normal glasses are home.
So then, when you stop unexpected for groceries, you look like a douchebag with your sun glasses on, but you can't really take them off because you don't see shit without them.
Holy shit. I never realized that this could actually bother people. I thought the jokes about it were based in the same place that jokes about popped collars are.
I don't use reaction glasses simply because they don't work in cars due to the UV filtering in modern glass, so I have prescription sunglasses and often forget the clear ones so if I'm out and about they're staying on otherwise I can't see or read.
If I don't remember to take them off in my car(or I'm just feeling carefree) then Ill wear them inside because as long as it's well-lit I can see better with my prescription sunglasses. If it's dim then I do that thing wear I lift them slightly to peak out from under them to focus on important visual details like prices.
Depends on the sunglasses. Sometimes I'll put them up on my head, sometimes I keep them on. I use them to deal with light sensitivity so they're occasionally handy indoors.
I keep 2-3 shades on me of varying darkness at any time. Usually I'm wearing light rose-tinted ones.
I haven prescription sunglasses. Generally I don’t wear them inside, occasionally I’ll forget that I have them until after I’m in the store though. My eyesight without glasses is terrible so I leave them on. Sorry if I look like an asshole but I would have trouble navigating my way and finding what I need without them.
I feel like it’s fine. I don’t know, I would maybe stare an extra second at the person wearing sunglasses. But really, who cares? Do what feels comfortable for you. At least here in the States, we are way past anachronistic rules like taking your sunglasses off indoors.
I think the stereotype is douchebag because people don't think about all the possible legit reasons. I wear them when I have a migraine, often even at home. You could also wear them because they're prescription and you forgot the other pair at home. Or you simply forgot you have them on in the first place. We shouldn't judge but people like to judge. And they mostly judge douchebag because maybe more people wear shades indoors as an effort to build a personality around their empty shell of a self.
I wear clipons, because I need prescription glasses, and having to swap from prescription glasses to prescription sunglasses back and forth multiple times a day is an ADHD recipe for losing an expensive pair of glasses.
I take my clipons off indoors though, but that's mostly because it's really hard to see indoors with them on :P
Same. I occasionally happen to leave the house with only sunglasses and then I’ve got no other choice if I want to look at a menu behind a counter or somesuch. I still tend to take them off first inside and then go through this little dance in front of the staff where I theatrically put them on in an attempt to ensure that everyone understands my predicament. I’m British after all.
I have see-through sunglasses, because they are specially made for my eyes. I can’t take them off inside because then i cant see well. But thats exactly why i opted for see-through glasses, so people can still see my eyes. They aren’t hidden :)
I believe that makes a difference to people, they just want to be able to see your eyes :)
I mean I used to wear sunglasses at work at my desk because everything in the office was just too damned bright. Same with a restaurant job for about 2 hours of sunset when the light streamed in the windows.
Who cares what people think? Protect your eyes and do whatever you like when entering a store. As long as you can see fine, it doesn’t matter.
Depends on how long I'm inside, how dark the store is and how much of a fuck I give on a given day. I do think that most people think it's rude/douchey/etc., but I'm not convinced that I should care about that kind of moralizing of etiquette (though I do care, to various degrees, what people think of me).
It's somewhat harder to see inside with sunglasses, but I, too, wear prescription glasses so it's a bit of a hassle to change to normal glasses.
I have two of the same pair of glasses, one with normal clear prescription lenses, and the other with prescription lenses that are tinted brown and polarized. I often forget to switch them out because the sunglasses make everything look so damn good, but I carry them both with me and usually switch to my clear glasses if I’m indoors for more than a minute. But if I pop into a gas station or something for 30 seconds then I’m definitely not taking them off.
I like to wear them in places with fluorescent lighting, but some people really get uncomfortable with that. Sometimes I imagine they must be feeling the same thing I feel when I need to make eye contact during a long conversation
