With the world the way it is, it can be hard (at least for me) to see much of a future. So, for something positive for a change, what's happening in your personal life, what are you getting, or what ever else is meaningful right now - what's going on that you're looking forward to?
London, Salisbury/Stonehenge, and Liverpool. 10 days total. I've always been a bit of an Anglophile, a big history nerd, and a huge Beatles fan. I can't wait!
Music is central to my life, so upcoming releases, gigs, clubnights and festivals are my escapism drugs. That and uh, the actual drugs
Going to the wedding of some close friends too in July, they're great people so I'm sure it'll be a blast!
Finally, slowly but surely making progress on my house which I bought three years(!) ago, both in terms of much needed maintenance and filling out with furniture. Still lots to be done!
Moving far away from the place I have lived almost my entire life. Like you said, it's hard to see much of a future - there isn't one here for me. It's unaffordable, I hate most of the neighbours, and I'm paying rent at twice the cost of a mortgage payment. A renoviction would make me homeless. Fuck that and fuck this city, I'm out this summer.
Thank you. I'm a mega-loner hermit and where I'm going is a very small town. If there's a place for me in the community there I'll give it a shot, but even if not, I still think I'll be a lot better off than I am now.
My Rollerblades should be here Wednesday! Last I had a pair I was probably 17, but I started playing Bomb Rush Cyberpunk (spiritual successor to Jet Grind Radio) and was instantly hit with the urge to get back out there.
Figuring out why I'm sick! I saw a new doctor today. The staff was nice. Every single time I step foot in the office, my blood will be stolen. Exciting!
For the most recent things that they're actually taking seriously? Around a year. I've been sick though for longer, but they don't take that very seriously so idk.
I'm working on a freelancing project for a company that's going to be paying me over $5k for the work I've done. I don't know what I'm going to be using the money for but it'll be nice to not have to worry about money for a while.
My first therapy appointment tomorrow, which is way overdue. Somehow lucked out that there was someone in-network, checked all the boxes I needed, and literally 3 buildings over from my work.
Short term: new shoes! I ordered them online, they should arrive any day now. Looking forward to having something nice to wear in the summer.
Mid term: forging our wedding rings! We have a workshop coming up in a couple weeks where we'll be forging our very own rings under supervision of a professional jeweler. Jewelry is a very lovely thing on it's own, even more so when I'll be creating them from scratch together with my partner - the love of my life.
Long term: our wedding next year! There's still so much preparation to be done and so much money to save up until then, as well as the honeymoon right after that. It's all very exciting!!
My daughter is turning 12 and going to secondary school after summer. I'm hopefully graduating my bachelor after summer. My wife is starting nursing school after summer.
My oldest daughter is giving birth later this month. It's not my first grandchild, but it'll be the first one I get to have in my life. (Long story, in short one of my daughters didn't take her mom and dad's divorce well, nor her mom's subsequent marriage to me.)
So a new chapter of life begins. Concurrent with all the other ongoing chapters, of course....
A number of artists I like have had/will have shows here around Seattle this year, and I decided to combat the inertia by splurging and buying tickets to most of them. I always did love live shows (but damn, have they gotten more expensive).
I've already seen Eddie/Suzy Izzard, who was as delightful as always. Soon will be seeing Pixies, The Offspring, Josh Johnson, Demetri Martin.... I think I'm forgetting somebody.
I have the same problem.. um I guess the resurgence of 80s style things again? Seems like a lot of people love the designs (I always have) and more and more stuff is trying to mimic that style. Also the resurgence of records and tapes is good, we need to own our media again and stop streaming. Also VR improving will be fun if we can keep corpo shit out of it
I've been with this company for a few years. I grew in it and had a great time. My boss however decided to take over my job, and slowly I've been going back to tasks I was no longer doing since I had other responsibilities, while he takes over my tasks and ruins what I've been building for years.
It's been painful to see that, but extremely painful to see the mood of the team changing to the worse, and just having a sense of less productivity.
It's a lost cause at this point. So I'm just looking for the day where I get to leave.
I’m a pro musician. I was in a big rock band in the mid 2010s, and we were doing all kinds of cool shit. It imploded over stuff that didn’t really involve me, but following that, I went into a serious drunk-depression that lasted years and almost killed me.
I cleaned up, going on two years sober, have a new band together, and are about to open ourselves up to the world and start booking shows. It’ll be my first shows completely sober since like 2012. It’s terrifying, but I’m excited as hell.
Punk rock music has fallen by the wayside. Time to try and bring it back to life. 🤘
