Some fantastic news out of Melbourne, with reform of the city's horrible bus network finally on the agenda.

Some fantastic news out of Melbourne, with reform of the city's horrible bus network finally on the agenda.

Especially in the outer suburbs, Melbourne's bus network is just terrible. Long detours down side streets, unreliable and infrequent services that often too early.

Really, the best value investment Victoria can make in improving its public transport services is a complete overhaul.

Buses should be expected run at least once every 10 minutes in dedicated lanes along major roads.

Frankly, it's almost absurd to spend $60 billion on a suburban rail loop to increase cross-suburban trips, when a popular bus service, such as the 732:

Has its first service of the day leave Box Hill at 6:16am
Has its last service run at 9:19pm
Run at a 20-minute headway even during the morning peak
