A claim by the Russian Defence Ministry that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin was “in the epicentre of a drone attack” has turned out to be a staged performance by the Kremlin.
This is one of the most common mistakes people make when it comes to Russia: Situations like this are done basically without a single thought of what the international community thinks. They don't care, because you're not the target for the propaganda.
It was done to drive up support for the invasion, by plastering all the headlines inside Russia about an assasination attempt on the country's leader.
This is done to make Putin look better in eyes of Russians. "See? He is not hiding in a bunker, not afraid of being in a danger. He is so cool and all he says must be right".
I'm gonna be honest, I did not think this was staged when I first read it...
...Because why on earth would that be what you want to stage? Like sure, they say in the article it was to "prove Putin isn't hiding behind others" or some such shit. The message it sends to me is "our air defense is so shit we can't even lock it down when the guy in charge comes to visit". What a bizarre choice of propaganda.
