Just saw this by chance: Donations and Patrons for Lemmy development surged massively on Liberapay in the last weeks!
Don't know what the exact cause was/is for this big surge - but I am glad to see it. No matter what personal problems people may have with the main devs, they are doing great work on the platform.
Dev posted few weeks ago about donations being a little short and having lowered making it more difficult to support development. A lot of people then started to donate or increase their financial support.
Ah, yes, that was right at the time where I was having peak personal stress/health issues and only did the bare minimum admin work on Lemmy and my other platforms, no wonder I missed it. Glad to see people actually responded to the call to action, though!
Oh yea I started donating all right...to PieFed (I don't even have a PF account), .world and .cafe.
I won't be giving a penny to them until I see some major changes in regards to .ml as so many people called for on every other version of the donation thread that wasn't .ml
Update: For those of you who want to support Lemmy development without financing the hosting of lemmy.ml, know that the hosting is paid exclusively through OpenCollective. You can see the payment details at this link. This means donations through all other platforms (Liberapay, Ko-fi, Patreon, Crypto) are exclusively for Lemmy development, and not a single cent goes to lemmy.ml hosting.
Edit: Liberapay is the preferable donation option, as it has very low fees and is also open source.
As was brought up in those threads, but it's simply not good enough, it's just paying for .ml with extra steps (e.g. through their pay/salary rather than directly funding hosting costs)
This is a bold lie that Nutomic keeps pushing. These donations go directly to Nutomic and Dessalines. The servers are not the problem. The problem is the admins who happen to be the devs.
We get it, you hate Lemmy as a platform. You try so hard to make it less appealing by splitting discussions on posts by reposting stuff needlessly. Really makes Lemmy look even more unoriginal and boring seeing the same posts 3 times in different places all the time. Then you spearhead some movement to try to get people to not donate to Lemmy development at all, making it harder for these people who are trying to make Lemmy their life's work to be able to even survive. It's actually gross.

Because they use the .ml instance and it's influence as being associated as the "Official Dev Instance" to push their Tankie "ideology", to include spreading dangerous misinformation and propaganda
They could solve it almost overnight by turning over .ml to a new as fair and unbiased as possible admin team. As was also brought up in those donations threads. In fact to paraphrase another user: "Devs should do dev work and not mod work and admins/mods should do mod work and not dev work".
Weird how if you are an asshole to your users it makes them into enemies.
I joined Lemmy with every intention to contribute and make a significant donation as well. But after getting banned and dogpiled for daring to say things like "Russia shot down a civilian airplane" and "the ML theory you are referencing does say what you claim it says," I'm also here to say the fediverse will be better without cringe keyboard warriors like Dessalines and transphobes like Nutomic being involved with it. There are other projects to support.
Whoops, corrected now. I was already surprised I had gotten a result not hosted on joinmbin.org - but just assumed maybe the docs were hosted somewhere else for some reason. Should have taken the extra minutes to check what exactly I was linking there.
They posted asking for people to stand up for them. Dirty communists like myself (okay, and others) stood up and pushed that message everywhere we could. Because you have to want freedom and democracy. It does not come for free.

Ah, that makes sense - I missed that, but have been happily giving them a bit of money for years now. I don't have a lot to spare, but every little bit helps with crowdfunded stuff like that.
That joke was actually pretty funny. But what were those other posts mate? Show a little respect to the people giving you the opportunity to post here at all.
This reminded me that I wanted to support. Just did a yearly payment. Thanks for the amazing work guys! I can't believe a just a few people can maintain such an amazing ecosystem. One day people will understand that, in 48 hours, we could destroy the entire gafam system and replace it with a fair alternative: the Fediverse and FLOSS.
