Happy Saturday all! I’m growing corn for the second year in my little raised bed and I’m trying it from seed this time. It’s mostly gone well and some of them are to the point I should cull them down to one sprout a spot, but I was wondering if it would be feasible to transplant the second highest stalk on each to fill in spots none of them sprouted from. If so, any tips on the process?
I'd do that sooner rather than later so they'll settle in better and not lag too far behind the others in terms of development and flowering time. If you're transplanting just because of shading I wouldn't bother, they're close enough in size.
Just checking, was the corn last year a hybrid or heirloom/open pollinator? Did you only plant one variety or multiple varieties?
If it was a hybrid or you planted more then one, you likely won't get what you're expecting. If you want to do seed saving, pick an heirloom and just stick with that.
