The Virginia Democrat, whose constituency includes many federal workers, cited the return of his esophageal cancer — first diagnosed in late 2024 — as the reason for his planned departure.

Ocasio-Cortez is no longer a member of the Oversight Committee and joined Energy and Commerce this year, so she could have a difficult time mounting a comeback bid — though it’s not clear she intends to do so.

Who would have thought itd be bad to give chairmanship to someone with cancer...

They gave him that seat specifically so AOC wouldn't have it, and now that she's moved committees he can retire his newly given seat. Suddenly the cancer is an excuse to not sit on that committee, but it wasn't literally months ago.

Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.), another senior member of the Oversight Committee, to serve as interim ranking member for the indefinite future.
  That move places Lynch as the top Democrat on the panel, but without the formalities — including a vote of the full caucus — required to seat a permanent ranking member.

It's absolutely pathetic that we're waiting on these old, ineffective waste of spaces to die instead of them moving the fuck out of the way voluntarily.
