I love all Fallout games but the first two are like completely different from other ones in my opinion. It's not just about the gameplay . It's about the feelings. Even hearing the music which plays when narrator enters, gives me goosebumps. They had more serious worlds and scenarios when compared to other ones. Bosses, characters etc... That's why I can still remember first two games, even the themes in my mind.
Very good image quality. Additionally, it's just a good opening video in general! Shows you all that was already in place long before Bethesda took over. I only got in the series at Tactics (PC), the third game. I loved it! Still haven't made it back to Fallout 1 and 2... One day hopefully.
Both games are obviously old school (they are almost 30 years old now), but the FO2 engine has some nice QoL improvements.
I would also get a build guide/walk-through for the first 5 hours of both games. There is a stupid amount of RNG and you have to use super cheesy tactics (really dumb kiting and constant save scumming) to survive the early game.
Things get way more fun in terms of combat balance in the mid to late game.
I would consider using a walkthrough anyway if you're not planning on multiple playthroughs, since there is a lot of fun stuff you might otherwise miss. I've always found Per Jorner's Nearly Ultimate Fallout (2) Guide the best by far:
