What was a fact taught to you in school that has been proven false during your lifetime?

Easy to proof: Vaccumated capsule to draw blood.
No contact with air and still red.

I remember my science teacher in seventh grade saying this. I was just very confused because my mother who was a nurse said it was just a dark red.
