The absolutely stupid thing about this particular statement is that egg imports had risen to meet demand which was forcing egg prices back down. The tariffs are going to completely reverse that.

I had this thought the other day and this seems as good a place to leave it as any. Trump seems to be running the economy like it is a simplified version of the 1980s. The other issue is most of the 1% have the means to buy boatloads of stock right now as it's crashing. Companies won't lose money. They'll pass this onto consumers and workers. Raise prices, no bonuses, cut staff. So the working class will be hit the hardest while the 1% profits. And these tariffs aren't expected to actually bring any manufacturing back to the US.
