Assuming you are gay, have never committed a crime in your life and have illegally used software licensed with the "Be gay, do crime" license, you would have committed a crime, but because you did, you would have been following the license, which would mean you havent committed a crime, creating a paradox
There's no way this is how Rumpelstilzchen is spelled in English...
duckduckgoes
IT IS. English takes every single French word, keeps its spelling but mangles the pronunciation but for Rumpelstilzchen the pronunciation is somehow more relevant than the spelling? It makes some sense, but the ending "stiltskin" is an abomination.
The meaning of "stilzchen" is "small stilt" by the way - so he should've be called "Grumblestilty" in English.
in a community I was in a while ago, there was a license someone used called the "anyone but Jeff license" which banned people named Jeff from using the Minecraft mod
The Nuclear Waste Software License is brilliant. Not only does it make the right impact when publishing random write-only code, it's legally BSD so lawyers won't be up your arse about it. In fact, it only strengthens the warranty disclaimer.
Another license with vague requirements for not allowing anyone to use it for racist or bigoted purposes (who is deciding what counts as racist for the purpose of this license?)
Well the person who compiled this list is clearly a racist and queerphobic prick
He‘s kinda right though because assuming the person on the other end has the same exact ethics as you and won‘t use the software if they don‘t gives "Swiper, No Swiping" done in real life. I don‘t know if those licenses are really enforceable at all due to vague wording.
They are simply pointing out that "racist" and "bigoted" are just as ambiguous in the exact same way as the "evil", "harmful", "good", "negligent", "bad", "unethical" etc he mentions for the other licenses.
"bigot
noun
a person who is obstinately or unreasonably attached to a belief, opinion, or faction, especially one who is prejudiced against or antagonistic towards a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular group."
If being a bigot is good/bad/evil/harmful/unethical or not depends entirely on who is calling you one, and what you or society thinks of them. If you think that just because someone is a MAGA/Nazi/Tesla owner that they are bad, congratulations, you are a bigot.
Be Gay Do Crimes licence - seems to be good for gay people who live where being gay is a crime, unless one wishes not to out themselves by their choice of licence
A "source-available" license that says you can't fork the project, which means it is illegal to click the fork button on GitHub (which is a violation of the GitHub ToS) and also makes it impossible to create any pull requests without push access to the original repo. Source
Oh yeah, I remember that whole fiasco from a few months back.
