Best/most seamless eReader for Wallabag compatibility?
I have an aging Kindle and am looking for a new eReader to both read books and articles I've saved throughout the day. I use Wallabag to save articles. I like it over Pocket because it's better for paywalls because it fetches content directly from the browser.
I am leaning Kobo because of apps like Wallabako and KoReader (not exactly what that is yet but people seem to like it).
Anyone else have a similar setup or have any advice?
On a Boox or a Meebook which runs Android you can just install the Wallabag app, but KOReader has good support too. The downsides to the Android readers are that the battery life is worse and the setup a bit more complicated.
Thanks yes I was looking at Boox but I really want it to be as not tablet-like as possible, and the battery thing would be a small hurdle for me. Kobo has some nice devices, I wish there was an updated sage as I don't really care about colors.
I get you but tbf I'd never want to use my Boox Page as a tablet haha. If you're worried about distractions, I think the e-ink and it's refresh rate will pull one back to reality quite fast. I find it impossible to be distracted by anything on there that's not related to books or manga. But I'm super happy with my Kobo Libra 2 as well. Did you mean that one? They do have Sage in B/W still.
Well, the good news is you can always jailbreak your Kindle to install KOReader which plays nice with Wallabag.
KOReader is basically a custom app that has much more integration and plug in compared to built in Kindle app.
Think of your current Kindle UI as "default app" and KOReader as another app that's much more powerful than Kindle app, and you can always switch between Kindle "app" and KOReader "app" at anytime so you don't even lose any built in Kindle functionality.
Personally I found KOReader to be super useful for these:
Dark mode on Kindle Paperwhite 3 which doesn't support it natively
Use gesture to increase or reduce Kindle backlight
Connect to cloud storage to download books directly
Download article using RSS for web serial (shoutout to Pale lights) and basically read my web serial in Kindle
Set WiFi to be auto off when Kindle is sleeping and auto connect when out of sleep mode.
That's a great explainer, thank you! Any guidance on pointing me in the right direction to find Kindle jail breaking walk throughs? I may just end up keeping mine.
