There should really be a way for a party or it's base to initiate a recall election. We've had some recent cases of Republicans trying to recall Democrats. It should be for "buyers remorse" and not "we want a do-over".
Honestly there should be both. Just make the trigger for the general recall an exceptionally high bar.
If there was a recall mechanism, I think it would be unreasonable to restrict it to just the party of the candidate
