Thought this was interesting and worth knowing about :)
"Mozilla will never sell user data" was also a promise.

That's a relief.
Good to know. I was wondering if this would happen and what I would do about it. Somehow the Thunderbird team seems to work completely independent from Mozilla. They also make quite good money from donations, so there is less of a reason to search for additional revenue.
If I understand correctly they're actually not directly a Mozilla project or something anymore. They're loosely connected, but not actually run by Mozilla.
