The speed at which these people are capitulating is alarming. I mean it took them decades to even begin to do any kind of rainbow capitalism and they all ditched it like a hot potato in a split second.
Do you guys not realize that this reaction is literally one of the reasons they do this? To be a distraction and to show their base that they made the bad people™ cry about it.
The primary focus of Trump since coming to office has been securing natural resources. Greenland, Canada, Ukraine all have rich mineral deposits. Even the Panama shit is about controlling a geographic "resource"...the canal.
This rename is about making it sound like it belongs to the US. What's there a lot of here? Oil. And it sits under international waters.
It's like the shitpost version of blitzkrieg. Just overwhelming you with absolute diarrhea for the soul. And it's working, even though we all know it's happening.
You know, I had the shitty thought that at least back before chat communication, a robber baron (or it's equal kind) had to actually hire thugs and henchmen to cause local chaos. Now it's just some tech oligarch with some bots or a paid anonymous service causing disruption.
We really got fucked over on this one. I'm really not sure how America pulls itself out of this one with the state of education and political polarization. The federal part of our government definitely isn't offering up any solutions.
Apple has been suppressing the resistance in russia. They dont give a fuck about freedom or democracy. It’s naive to think theyll do anything but enable trumps takeover
Of course not. They’re a corporation. We like to think they’re perhaps less evil than others, but the truth is they would harvest their users internal organs if they thought it would increase shareholder value.
Tim Apple is literally a financial contributer to the Trump presidency. They are not being shy about their support. I'm Suprised it took them this long, but they've always been a bit behind with their maps project.
In my view, the only ones that really care are the people whose opinions don't matter. The Gulf of Mexico will always be the Gulf of Mexico, regardless of what it may legally be called. Much the same way, in my view, X will always be Twitter, And Zuckerberg will always be POS.
They don't have to take it away, they can just set up the backend to blackhole those requests. So presence of the report issue facility does not imply they actually will ever even see the issue.
It's just a very literal direct example of American imperialism.
This is a rallying call. Get pissed off about it. Shout how Trump is a fascist, how he's ruining the country and taking everyones freedoms away. Shouting is how they've been winning the cultural political war. They own more media organizations and can be louder. If we say nothing, then the average person thinks what's happening is fine. You're not going to get people to riot if they aren't angry.
This is also a prime example of how Google cannot be trusted, and driving a wedge between the average person and Google is a very important and necessary thing for the anti fascist cause.
Hot take, but I'd actually be fine with the US calling it the Gulf of the Americas since it is a shared gulf by north and south America. There are examples like the south China Sea and the Persian Gulf that have different names depending on what country you are in. But calling it the Gulf of America is just dumb.
That opens another can of worms, since the continent is called America, and the country that appropriated it is The United States of America. Calling the continent “Americas” implies that USA is the original America.
As recent as the 80s it was still called America by everyone except USA and some countries of Europe.
I agree with the sentiment on Gulf of Americas. But I think the singular (and referring to land of both continents) makes more sense. Firstly because it rolls off the tongue better. Secondly because the existence of the 'North America' and 'South America' both imply that those lands are parts of a larger body of land called America. North America being the Northern half of America. While South America presides in the Southern half.
'America' being the United States is only reinforced by the fact that the United States is the most significant nation in global politics East of the Pacific and West of the Atlantic.
