I started a couple of Harry Potter themed communities focused on various Harry Potter Ships, they're based off of the Subreddits with the same names, and I'm looking for some potential moderators to help manage them, as well as some potential users.
No offense intended, but... Attempting to create Harry Potter themed communities while JK Rowling holds the rights to them, on a social media platform with a huge trans/enby population, doesn't seem like it would go very far.
As much as I enjoy Harry Potter, fuck Rowling and I will be looking forward to the day she dies or sells the IP.
Same. I honestly truly miss the magic and wonder if it, figuratively and literally. It was big for me growing up. Was devastated to see what my fandom had supported 💔
I think that "The Death of the Author" applies even if the author is still alive. Just because a creator is or has become a jerk doesn't mean we can't enjoy their work.
You can think that, but it's wholly inaccurate. Especially these days.
The more people that engage with an artist's work in any way online, the more analytics teams see that. They then note a steady demand for content around said IP. In order to create more content, the creator/author must be compensated even if not directly involved. If that compensation goes to a living person who willfully and knowingly uses it to justify horrendous actions, then every single person in that line of consumption is culpable. Starting with the consumer. Us.
This is exactly why they keep creating more shit for this franchise. It's because people keep engaging and supporting it and demanding more. So then the author (who is btw on record as saying that her continued success is proof that people support her opinions), keeps getting richer and richer and goes on to have bigger platforms and unchecked actions.
As a trans person, if I knew any action taken by myself or a family member contributed even a small fraction of a percent of a single cent to that thunder cunt, I'd be nauseated.
Not when the author proudly flaunts the fact that every dime spent on her works goes towards eradicating trans people. (Yes, that was a bit hyperbolic, but she absolutely has stated that if you're enjoying Harry Potter then you're helping her fight against trans people).
To be fair, I honestly enjoy Harry Potter. However, I don't want to give people the temptation to buy books or go see movies.
Then again, people seem to be looking for alternatives to big tech lately. There's probably interested people out there, but it might be more efficient to recruit outside of Lemmy.
I don't know what a ship is and after checking out a community I still don't understand, but I hope they are successful whatever it is they are doing. :)
The current most active community is !leaky_cauldron@diagonlemmy.social, maybe you can start posting there first? It's not a very popular topic on Lemmy, so your posts should get good visibility
Yeah. There are a lot of trans and queer users around here, and anything to do with the High Transphobe of TERF Island is bound to get a bit of the cold shoulder.
I'm not particularly interested in the non-canon ships, but I suppose I could take the Harry and Ginny one. I don't (yet) have an account on literaturecafe though, which could present moderation challenges.
