I think this is a contender for the worst opinion column I've read this year - completely pointless, irrelevant and come on Matt couldn't you think of anything a bit more interesting that happened this week?

Then why did you post it here?!
- There is a possibility - just a small one - that I was a little drunk last night and instead of reading a book and going to sleep I posted things on the internet.
  
  I still stand by the fact even for what's intended to be an amusing article it's a shit one though
I don't like it but I do find it funny when a queue forms. No one wants it, no one planned it, but no one will break order and go straight to the bar. It's one of the few things where we truly are all in it together
I thought it was mildly amusing. Is that not what it's supposed to be?

It didn't feel like it was passing serious comment at all, just being silly about an observation that we can all relate to, even though it isn't important.

What am I missing?
- I found it smug and irritating. The humorous columnists usually manage much better than this on something more substantial.

  But your Times guy is just having a gentle laugh at the whole thing. I don't like the Times and I don't read newspapers and I certainly wouldn't give any of them a subscription, but this isn't anything to get angry about.
It's not irrelevant, it's irreverent. Cmon, it's a joke article. You may be reading a bit too much into it.
I don't know about this "we" - I've never seen it and people would treat you with scorn for even attempting it.

The only knock-on effect of the lockdown is we get a bit of table service if the pub isn't too busy.
