It's just been Mr Woof and I at home since the middle of the week, and at first he was super duper anxious, lying near the front door, waiting for everyone else. Last night, I went upstairs to my room to check the temperature, and he started fluffing up my bed to sleep on. He's only ever done that if my mum is in my room.
EDIT: Thank you all for your good thoughts. I have returned unscathed, bearing watermelon and icy poles and lettuce and jelly. And boring bread & milk etc. We will survive this. The cool change on Sunday night/Monday morning will be EPIC!
In Albury for the night on the way back. I've definitely had my cup filled (but already missing being out in nature all day and all night, and physically very tired from various tasks). It's an absolute oven outside. Thankfully the AC was running at my accom before I arrived so I'm just chilling for now (got a free upgrade to Queen, score!).
Debating whether to get a proper meal for dinner or just some ready-to-eat stuff from Woolies... Might splurge on the meal tonight and get some crackers and dip for breakfast and the rest of the drive home tomorrow.
The forecast's back up to 40 for today and tomorrow for us northern suburbs types. Which isn't a big difference from 38 in real terms, but psychologically...
I've been to the gym (which is also a large council pool, it was bananas) and I'm hibernating with the cricket for the rest of the weekend.
After trying to work up the courage to get ready and then go to the shops for the last 2 hours, I've given up. The shop I want to go to requires a 15 minute walk, but is open late. Given that, I'll wait until it cools down a bit
I never would have thought I'd prefer to stay in Queensland weather wise but even with humidity I'm regretting booking my flight back to Melbourne for tonight. I suppose I'll miss a day of it but my apartment is going to be a hotbox when I get back.
Miss Meow is trying to help with my assignment by pressing the F1 key at random times. She has also managed a complete paragraph of ```````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
The situation in Korea is wild right now. There's an arrest warrant for the president (call him in for questioning related to his declaration of martial law, which could amount to treason I think) and his personal security guards (and public supporters) are physically blocking the arrest from happening, and apparently they only have a few more days to wait until the arrest warrant becomes invalid. What the actual fuck
The garden has been watered, and I picked my first ripe tomatoes. Apparently I have an unexpected tomato hybrid, with trusses of yellow tomatoes. I was expecting red, so failed to recognise some earlier tomatoes had actually ripened.
I've caved and turned on the portable air con. It's still really inefficient cause I can't really block the window. But I hung a sheet to try and block extra sunlight and some air getting though. These stupid blinds aren't helping cause they're rigid and the entire dimensions of the window
RIP my electric bill, again
I've got a smart metre thing so I can see my electricity usage, and the day I had the portable air con running for like 2 hours, I used 2kw more Ecotricity than my previous highest usage day. That is only like 80 cents, but still.
Yeahโฆ thereโs soap powder residue on my cutlery so Iโm having to rinse everything under the tap again before use. Hopefully itโs only because it was in the rapid cycle but thereโs nowhere to put rinse aid in this machine and itโs not very convenient to load. Iโm also having to put things on a dish towel or dish rack to finish drying.
Buyers regret. Like I am happy the dishes are getting done because itโs my hardest task but itโs also creating more fiddly little headaches. Pisses me off because of the money.
Guess Iโll use it in the meantime but will start saving up again and this time actually get something better, something I can see in person. When I get another one I can ask if anyone I know wants it or donate on Givit.
I took some pics of the mini dishwasher. Sorry thereโs no banana for scale. Theyโre also kind of minimal because I didnโt want to post any clutter or my reflection. You will get the rough idea though.
I didnโt use the tap attachment but let me know if you want me to try that and take some pictures.
This is a large Corelle dinner plate.
You can fit some in at an angle.
Just load carefully. lol (showing size)
I didnโt take a pic of the previous wash but hereโs one with the pet bowls.
You can see how I Tetrised in a lot of small items while thereโs still heaps of unused room up top. Thatโs what I meant when I said it might have been nice to have an optional top rack. I do have clearance room for it to be a smidge taller.
Thereโs no cover to the detergent dispenser but eh.
Hereโs the fill jug and the fill tray. You fit the lip of the trayโs hole into the water tank inlet hole and slowly pour into the tray.
The supplied fill jug has weirdly marked increments so just listen to the machine. Once it receives the 5 litres it makes a series of rapid panicked beeps. If it doesnโt do that and the tap icon is showing just keep pouring in a little more.
You can see the drainage pipe at the side - that just goes over and sits in the sink. Thereโs a suction cup to hold it in place or out of the way if needed but just draping it over does me fine.
Ps. I did reposition that ramekin at an angle before starting! Was just focused on getting the demo pics
I had a sneaky late night choc cross buns. Bleh. The ones I get from Aldi have something chocolatey inside. The woolies ones I got don't, they just put cocoa powder into whatever mixture they used and got rid of the fruit
Too hot to be hungry. For lunch I ate a bowl of diced mango with a scoop of vanilla icecream. but now Iโm peckish, maybe shall make myself a Vegemite toast.
On my way home from a pub lunch and watching gladiator 2 at pentridge cinemas. I thought gladiator 2 was really well done. They got through an impressive amount of storyline while managing to keep it fast paced and action packed. 4/5 hobbits, would recommend
Shops done. Missed Kmart though, so an excuse to go window shop tomorrow ig
Fuck shopping centres that half shit down at night time for no good reason. I went in the main entrance, as one does. That was open, but half way down was closed. Had to do a 10 minute detour around to the other side of the building to get to the supermarket entrance
I realise they probably try and justify it by arguing about all the closed shops, but it's really just ridiculous. It's such a car centric way of thinking
This happened at highpoint too where they closed the entrance from the bus bays and I had to walk about 20 mins iirc to get to the other side, and part of it didn't even have a footpath or the footpath just ended. It's ridiculous.
There was a mouse on the footpath in a really bad way. I scooped it into the empty paper bag I had avoiding touching it and carried it home. Was thinking to put it in a box with some water. Ended up leaving it in the bag because any moving really agitated it.
It wasnโt drinking from the plastic lid so I tried to give it water from an old syringe but that just made it more panicked. (I know you shouldnโt try to give wildlife water directly like that, youโre advised not to, I just thought at that point helping it drink something maybe outweighed the risks.)
I left it alone and the next time I checked it had passed. Itโs buried now - in a far corner where nothing edible will go. Unsure if heat, rat poison or disease (no visible injuries) but I made sure to avoid direct touching and washed my hands.
Only a mouse but yeah :(

Melbcat was also sick on the bed while I was briefly out. Iโm still trying to get her to give me a urine sample for the vet
I forgot to water this morning so popped out with my hat on, sure enough everything was wilting. Quick water then out to check the maggieโs water. They still had some.
But some beefy sunburned dipshit came stomping aggressively through like an elephant while I was talking to them and topping up their water. Really obvious nonverbal anger. Not either of the men that tip the water out but looks like the one that was swearing about โsome prick feeding themโ. Guess the target is square on my back now.
But fuck him. Pretty sure this is private property heโs cutting through. I pay rent so Iโm the one that has the right to be here.
Iโm getting very sick of random shitty men trying to intimidate me on my own property about things that are none of their business, and if he begins to harass me directly then perhaps the police might like some footage of him.
Edit: Iโd consider some hotfoot powder to peacefully encourage the blow ins to walk a different way. Make all of our lives easier. But I donโt want the local cats to step in it and lick the spiciness off their beans, or me to track it in onto my carpet for Melbcat to stand on.
Some time at the park this morning before it got too hot. Then I picked up some coffee beans from one of those middle of the thoroughfare cafes at a shopping centre as my regular order won't be here until at least Thursday
Whoever signed off on the wedding dress outfit in Mario Odyssey was a goddamn genius.
replaying the boss fight and having the cutscene of Our Hero (tm) kicking the door in and interrupting the wedding with Mario as a spurned bride is fucking peak comedy
I am at the stage of flu recovery where my body is exhausted and my brain is running and I can't sleep. Guess it beats last night's fever but I want to SLEEEEP. UGH.
Damnโฆ yesterday after the dentist I got the local homeless dude the wrong drinks. I usually only give him some change and only briefly saw his sign, so got a bit confused and bought the wrong option.
Itโs cool. Iโm not down that way too often but now Iโve figured out the right thing.
(Now him, heโs fine. The people around here are usually harassing me or doing scary disruptive things outside my house, hence my defensive attitude and unwillingness to engage, but heโs chill and doesnโt bother anyone. Iโve always got a coin or two for him when I go past.)
I want to go down to the shops for some ice cream and flour, and while I'm there I might get some cross buns (hear me out: I think bringing back the "hot" will cause the weather to get even worse and it'll end up being 53ยฐ outside)
Hmmโฆ just tried the countertop dishwasher for the first time and a few things quite annoy me. I hope I get used to it or I might give it away
spoiler
Edit: Ahh good, itโs only the rapid cycle I tried that didnโt do any drying. Because everything was left literally dripping wet (way more so than drip drying in a rack beside the sink) so would force you to dry things really thoroughly by hand (soaking a few tea towels) and would draw roaches if you left the door open to avoid mould. Still something of a concern tho.
Not loving that Iโd have to use an hour long program to get any drying but Iโll try it out on the pet bowls so see if theyโre left less sopping.
I would have liked a second rack to fit in a larger number of tiny items. Iโll have to learn how to load it properly and really learn how it works I guess. Thereโs a flap up top that could be for long handled spoons or little teacups. To YouTube I guess.
The utensil holder lid pissed me off to the point I just ran the load without it /shrug
Also completely petty but I didnโt like the fact that it asks for 5 litres of water to be poured in but supplies you a jug smaller than that which is marked in weird measurements. You have to just keep refilling and pouring until you hear the beeping and the tap icon disappears, leaving you with leftover water in the jug. Seriously? Marking it as 1.4L and .6L was a very random choice and I might just use my own jug.
You also need to be slow/careful in pouring so you donโt bump the pourer tray as itโs held in the inlet by a shallow lip and is quite shallow itself so you can spill some down the back of the machine. Bit hard to hold the heavy jug up for a while to go slow.
I didnโt grow up with a dishwasher and the few times Iโve used one they were full size that left the stuff basically almost dry. So yeah. Itโs a learning curve.
ย
I do like that you can just pour the water in though rather than having to constantly connect and disconnect to the kitchen tap, that would drive me nuts. Especially as the connections arenโt necessarily universal.
Standalone/tank fill option means you can put the normal stuff in to get cleaned while you handwash the knives and the cooking pots.
For some reason my wipes have failedโฆ twice. 100% bytes erased, but blanking failed. Some of the errors suggest the disks are on their way out. NBD since theyโre going to trash. Yet, while I have a million and one other things to do, I havenโt looked at a Linux distro for aeonsโฆ So, of course Iโm going to look at Endeavour. This is a rabbit hole I need not be heading down today. LOL.
Damnit, I knew I should have grabbed that pack of Zoopers the other dayโฆ
Today a lady that I helped months ago recognised me and was so excited to see me. She asked for a photo with me. It was quite strange but I kinda felt like a celebrity for a second.
Tomorrow will be hot too apparentlyโฆ tonight Iโll make some jelly and maybe some custard.
I have zooper doopers but donโt like the harsh cold especially on my teeth. Thereโs no way Iโll finish before they expire. I wish I hadnโt frozen the unopened packโฆ Could have donated that
