I remember when I discovered what astigmatism was when I was hanging out with some friends, complaining about how hard it was to see at night with one of them while our other friends stared at us in mounting horror as we all discovered that light is actually not supposed to be spiky.

I love going to holiday light displays and just let my eyes relax and everything is all spiky with halos around, and it’s all quite overwhelming but really pretty.

I do hate driving at night, though.

- Hey buddy try scheduling an eye appointment next time funds are available, would be a natural next step (at least in an equitable world)

- Prescription glasses expire as our eyes are constantly changing. You should get your eyes checked every two years minimum.
  
  My prescription stopped changing in my late 20s.

- As a long time glasses wearer, no it does not mean there is necessarily something wrong with your eyes. Glasses can cause visual aberrations. Lights at night always look a bit like puffballs to me no matter my prescription. Not sure if it's just because my prescription is a bit stronger than most or what. Something about contact lenses makes this go away entirely, but I prefer wearing my glasses for comfort.

- It's normal to see some halo around a light at night. What isn't normal, is to see a distortion of the light as depicted in OP's image.
  
  If you see that the light is distorted more on one axis, that means you have some kind of astigmatism.
  
  I have a little bit of astigmatism and it is nowhere near what OP's picture depicts.

  Technically, no doc needed, go to the optic saloon and be examined by a optometrists.

ICL surgery was fucking fantastic for me. If your insurance covers it, I highly recommend! I had a bad astigmatism in my right eye, and now I see 20/20 in both eyes! Fucking game changer.
- I had ICL surgery with strong astigmatism and nearsightedness - I feel like I cannot see details of trees and fine lines like I did before with my glasses. It is honestly more than a little disappointing. I wonder if I gave the right verbal cues to my optometrist when they got the refraction measurements prior to making the lenses.
  
  That super sucks! I had to go in a second time right around the month mark to have one of the lenses corrected because it shifted slightly. In and out in ~10 mins. Do you think that could be a possible option for you?
Yup.

Less glare was nice, but the main goal was getting rid of my afternoon headaches.
