Insurers Are Deserting Homeowners as Climate Shocks Worsen | Without insurance, it’s impossible to get a mortgage; without a mortgage, most Americans can’t buy a home.

Keep in mind all of this is insurance - the customers who paid into these policies now get nothing because the profitability of these areas has dropped and the business has changed their terms and pulled out. The people aren't making this news. This is a business refusing to do business in these areas because it might have to do the "pay out for damages" part. This isn't all climate related, much of California is a political maneuver to get the power company to start maintaining their power lines and cut down on wildfires caused by their lack of maintenance.

This is all caused by insurance companies.
