Taken at the National Zoo in Washington DC in the Invertebrate exhibit.
A sea cucumber is an echinoderm, with an elongated body and leathery skin, which is found on the sea floor worldwide. It is also named because of its cucumber-like shape. (adapted from wikipedia.org)
Most of the sea cucumbers I've seen (in the Caribbean) are brown or black - some with spots or stripes. I've never seen one in the ocean that was as colorful as this blue and yellow beauty! This guy was about two inches long and one inch in diameter.
