It would be for more than just photon, a serious longtime instance. with the $400 dollars i was donated (wtf) i can more than afford this.

Doesn't seem necessary to me. I say treat yourself with that money, don't spend it on us!
I agree. It doesn't seem necessary and I personally wouldn't use it (since I self-host).
Plus based on what I'm seeing over at Lemmy.world... running an instance can be non-trivial if it gets popular. Not sure you would want to invest the time and resources on that rather than developing Photon itself.
Not needed imo, I'd just spend the money on the app and pocket the rest.
