One of the things I'm really enjoying about this jump to the fediverse is watching everyone try things to get a better understanding. Gives me first telephone call vibes. Lots of "does this work?" "HEY it does work!"
I think that's always been possible? At least in the short time I've been around here.
For example, you can go into magazines and search for canada and it will give you not just the one hosted here at kbin.social but also canada@lemmy.ca, canada@lemmy.ml, etc.
I think when the great reddit migration happened, kbin got so swamped that they erected some sort of firewall that blocked out lemmy just to protect their own servers. But this didn't prevent you from reaching out to lemmy from your kbin account?
But if this sticks and 2-way connections remain open, that's is a good sign. It means kbin is getting on top of it? At least I hope that's the case!
As far as I understand it, never, unless someone makes an API proxy. They both use activitypub for federation but the client side API is totally different.
