A charred skein of linen thread, dating to around 3200 BC

From the pile dwelling settlement of Nußdorf-Maurach, Überlingen, Lake Constance. The damp environment has preserved it in good condition.

Sorry, what is a skein?
- It's how yarn is usually sold in stores. It's then turned into different forms depending on how it's going to be used

Could this be the work of a neolithic niddy noddy?
- I would guess a form of drop spindle. But who knows, maybe the Niddy Noddy is older than we think!
